Are you shopping for toys and want to pick the bes Are you shopping for toys and want to pick the best ones for your child’s development? 👀
Today’s guide is all about our favorite toys that support speech + language development from our speech therapists and fellow moms 🙌🏻

Here’s the quick tip: focus on open-ended toys — things your child can play with in lots of different ways. More possibilities = more language.
Think: blocks, Magnatiles, animals, cars, dollhouses, pretend play sets, simple cause & effect toys.

Interactive books like All Better are amazing too — kids love moving the bandaids, and the repeated “all better!” builds great verbal routines.

And always: skip the electronic toys. If the toy is talking, your child isn’t. 😉

Check the link in our bio or comment “Toys” and we’ll send the link to our favorite toys straight to your inbox!

Gestures come before words — and they’re one of th Gestures come before words — and they’re one of the strongest predictors of how your child’s language will grow. 👋🧠✨
Here are simple, evidence-based ways to build gestures every day:

✔ Gesture songs
Slow, exaggerated gestures helps your child imitate and engage.

✔ Teach waving hi + bye
Wave as you enter a room, leave a room, see a car, or start/finish activities.

✔ Teach blowing kisses
A fun, social gesture toddlers love to copy.

✔ Make your gestures BIG
Point dramatically, shrug, reach, clap — little ones copy what feels animated.

✔ Drop something silly to teach “Uh-oh!”
Let a toy fall, pause, and model open hands + “uh-oh!” Kids eat this up.

✔ Make big gestures during reading
Point to pictures, act out actions, and show surprise — this boosts imitation and attention.

✔ Teach head nods + head shakes for yes/no
